Rest for the Soul
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).
Several of my friends in radio advertise a certain brand of pillow.
According to them, it is the best pillow they’ve ever had. They say they’ve never slept better and, because of this pillow, they wake rested and energized.
Their commercials are working. These pillows are selling like hotcakes. The reason is people want to wake up from a night of sleep refreshed and ready to tackle the day.
People are looking for that same kind of rest for the soul.
Life is tough. Relationships are hard. And sometimes the worries and cares of the world overwhelm us.
We peddle hard to keep up, to keep life moving forward, or to try to keep things together.
It takes its toll. As Jesus said, we get weary and tired.
There is not a pillow we can buy that will give rest to the soul. Jesus is the answer.
He alone gives the rest and peace our troubled souls need.
He invites us to “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
Are you weary and tired today? Come unto Jesus. He will give you the best rest you’ve ever experienced.
