Respect

Description

In order for a marriage to work, both parties have to submit to one another, in love, and need to give each other respect.

Ephesians 5: 33

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

One of the main difficulties in marriage lies in the fact that you have two people living together, each trying to get their own way. In order for a marriage to work, both parties have to submit to one another, in love, and need to give each other respect. Giving love comes natural to women just as giving respect comes natural to men...but God calls us to do the opposite of what comes naturally. God calls a man to love his wife as he loves himself and God calls a woman to respect her husband.

What does respect look like in everyday terms? Respect honors the person and does not insult them or cut them down with sarcasm. Unfortunately, when women feel empty and unloved they tend to lash out with their words.  Hurtful words damage a man’s self-esteem and self-worth. A wife should always be aware of the words that are flowing out of her mouth. Women tend to spew out hurtful words without giving a second thought to the harm they might be causing. Today, be aware of your words and show your husband respect, whether he deserves it or not. By doing so, you will be honoring God and your marriage.

Prayer

Father, Give me kind and loving words towards my husband. I want a strong marriage. But, I must confess that when I am empty inside from taking care of the children and then I trip over my husbands shoes...I just go crazy! I find myself lashing out at my husband without even thinking about what I am saying. God, I know this action is wrong. Forgive me. Remind me throughout my day to be respectful and to honor my husband.
