Pull Off the Tape and Bless!

Description

The Bible's clear that we need to guard our tongues, but when it comes to encouraging others, we should let the blessings flow freely.

Recently I overheard a young man complain that he received plenty of pats on the back at work, but had to work really hard to ever hear any kind of compliment at home. Although he was outwardly chuckling and seemed to be throwing out this statement intentionally to get a response, a distinct plea for approval could not be missed.

Don’t keep the tape on your mouth when you need to be sharing encouraging words of blessing and grace with others.

In reference to Jesus, Luke records this:

“And all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips” (Luke 4:22).

I think one reason Revive Our Hearts’  "30-Day Husband Encouragement Challenge" is such an effective tool for struggling marriages is that it requires using your mouth to bless your husband. But The Ephesians 4:29 principle of speaking edifying words applies to all our relationships:

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear” (Ephesians 4:29).

Sharing encouraging words which bless and motivate others is a demonstration of kindness (another fruit of the Spirit). I challenge you to try it today. If you see someone doing a good job at work, or a child going the extra mile at home–commend them for it. If your husband is faithful to you, thank him for it. If the store clerk is helpful, let her know you appreciate it.

A gracious tone combined with encouraging words will bless the listener. Spread words of blessing and watch the environment around you take on a gracious atmosphere. Watch the fragrance of Christ begin to permeate your home!

Try it today, and watch how God uses it to bless someone.
