“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
How can we, as God’s children, have hope no matter what we are facing? How can we hold fast to this hope when the world around us mocks the truth? “Because,” Hebrews 10:23 says, “He who promised is faithful.” God is faithful…at all times, in all circumstances, whether we choose to believe it or not: He who promised is faithful.
So what has He promised to believers? He has promised reconciliation to God through Christ (Romans 5:6-10). This means that while we were enemies, Christ died for us, thereby making us right with God again through His shed blood on the cross. What could be a better promise, or bring more hope? He has promised to forgive our sins (1 John 1:9). He has promised never to leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8).
He has promised a Helper to be with us always (John 14:16). He has promised to strengthen and hold us up with His own right hand (Isaiah 41:10). He has promised to meet our needs (Matthew 6:25-32). He will answer our prayers (1 John 5:14-15). He has promised not to withhold anything good if we walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).
He promises to bear our burdens, and comfort us in our suffering (Psalm 68:19; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4). He has also promised a way of escape from every temptation and wisdom to face any challenge (1 Corinthians 10:13; James 1:5). In Him we have the promise of rest when our souls are weary and peace regardless of our circumstances (Matthew 11:28-29; Philippians 4:6-7). He is our guide (Psalm 32:8) and our healer (Psalm 103:1-3).
He has guaranteed His love to us, and that we can never be separated from it (Romans 8:38-39). We can trust that we are eternally secure in His hands (John 10:27-30) until He comes to take us home (John 14:1-3).
He who promised is faithful…faithful to keep every promise He has made. Let us, then, His beloved children be faithful to hold unwaveringly to the hope we have in Him.
Dear God, Give me Your grace to hold unswervingly to the hope I have in You. Thank You for Your faithfulness to me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
