Preparing for Battle

Moms, you should memorize the plan for victory and teach it to your children.

Ephesians 6:13

Therefore, put on the armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

We are in a spiritual battle everyday, we have an enemy who has come to steal and destroy our peace and joy. But, take heart! Jesus has overcome the world. In these verses, God gives us the recipe to victory. We as moms need to memorize this recipe and teach it to our children. We need to be teaching our children that there will be trouble in life, but we are not left alone to fight by ourselves. God is with us, and in Him we will have victory.

As a mom, we should be putting on the armor of God daily. The armor:

  • The belt of truth
  • Breastplate of righteousness
  • Feet fit with readiness that comes from the gospel of peace
  • Shield of faith
  • Helmet of salvation
  • Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

How are you doing in your battle today? Is the war raging and you feel defeated, isolated and alone? Or are you claiming victory, ready for battle, ready to rely on God? As a mom, you must be ready for the “flaming arrows” that the enemy will be throwing your way. When the enemy places those lies in your mind that defeat you, you must be ready with scripture to combat them. He tells us lies such as: I do not measure up, I am a bad mom, I cannot do this “mommy thing," I can’t love my husband, our circumstances are too great --they cannot be fixed, our finances are too bad, God won’t help me--I got myself into this mess and I will have to find a way out. Believing these lies will destroy us. Remember what Jesus said, in John 16:33, “Take heart! I have overcome the world.” Put on your armor of God and fight!

Father, Thank You that I am not alone in this world, and that You have overcome this world. Give me strength to call on You throughout my day.  I pray that I will realize I cannot fight this fight alone, and I NEED You.  I pray that I will wake up daily and my first thought will be, “God fill me with Your Spirit, take this day and do with it as You will.”
