Praying for a Christ Awakening: No Barriers

Pray for breakdowns of racial, social and status barriers as Christ’s church celebrates the Savior together.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus (Gal. 3:28).

Pray for: Breakdowns of racial, social and status barriers as Christ’s church celebrates the Savior together.

We are arrayed in many stripes, but we serve the same Lord. And few things must please His heart, more than the sight of men and women from across the denominational spectrum uniting in shared expressions of worship and service.

We see this convergence of the Spirit’s unifying power beginning to take place in our churches and in our communities. In times past, we would have remained tightly segregated along the rigid lines of difference; we now witness fellow believers enjoying harmony and congruence of Spirit. Now, more than ever, we are working together for common causes, dropping the competitive barriers that used to fill us with suspicion and keep us at arm’s length.

This unifying work must be more than show and simple affection if we intend on seeing God’s best work among us. When the walls that fall away between us are not only cosmetic, but become merely obstacles of the past kept us apart, His Spirit will be free to dance through the open spaces. We will experience Christ Awakening as we continue to seek Him in prayer.

Take the time now to pray:

Prayers of Thanksgiving

  • Jesus, we celebrate that You do remove social, racial, and status barriers among Your people, “to bring them together and make them one” (John 11:52).

Prayer of Confession

  • We often do not have the right attitude of the heart. Cleanse us, Dear God, for not being humble, broken, and contrite.

Prayer of Petition

  • Dear God, help us avoid barriers. Please “keep your servant also from willful sins” (Ps. 19:13).

Promises to Claim

  • Lord, may we experience wholeness in our relationships and overcome racial, social, and status barriers because you have “destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” (Eph. 2:14).
