Without faith, it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6 NIV)
The religious instinct in us wants to please God with good behavior. Or strict discipline. Or even suffering and sacrifice, not toward any real purpose but simply for their own sake. That same instinct warns us not to believe too much because, after all, we wouldn’t want to be presumptuous. All the while, God is looking for the opposite instincts: to realize that all our efforts fall pitifully short, while big faith honors him and prompts his response.
Why does God love faith so much? Because it makes a statement about who he is. It declares his goodness—his wisdom, power, and love—even when we can’t see it with our natural eyes. It anchors us in truth regardless of the lies swirling around us. Yes, faith is a big deal, and it pleases him.
Choose to live by faith—not presumption, not fantasy, but genuine faith in what he has actually revealed about himself and his purposes. Take hold of his promises and elevate them in your heart above all other considerations. Without faith, it’s impossible to please him. With it, it’s difficult not to.
