Planning for the Future

WHY, YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TOMORROW. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE? YOU ARE A MIST THAT APPEARS FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND THEN VANISHES. 15 INSTEAD, YOU OUGHT TO SAY, “IF IT IS THE LORD’S WILL, WE WILL LIVE AND DO THIS OR THAT.” — JAMES 4:14-15

It's hard not to look into the future and try to map out where life will take you. Someone once said to go ahead and break out the fine china instead of living with a paper-plate mentality! In other words, don't wait for a special occasion or for your knight in shining armor to appear: Experience life to the fullest each day you are given.

It's natural to plan for the future, to imagine that special relationship with a man that you hope will come along. God knows the desires of your heart, and He is always interested in blessing you with the very best. It can be dangerous to our hearts, however, to plot out our future without giving heed to God's Word.

James 4 warns us that we don't know how long this life will last. When we make our plans, we should remember that our sovereign God holds each day in His hands. Plan and pray within His will.

LET'S PRAY:

Father, remind me that You are sovereign. Teach me to remember You as I make plans. I want Your will above all else. Amen.
