Pick a Side
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 ESV)
I remember as a kid that I hated Phys Ed class – especially on the days that we were going to do team sports.
As the only asthmatic in the class, I would stand with my eyes downcast, while the humiliation continued for what seemed like an eternity. Everyone would be picked before me. It was awful and I wanted to crawl under the bleachers and hide. Later, back at the classroom, my friends would pull me aside and apologize. They just wanted to win and knew that I would be next to useless as I huffed and puffed. And it was true!
The only thing that was worse was when I was the last one standing and an odd number – so the teacher would let me chose a side. Mercy! I would have to decide whether to go on the side with the most of my friends (to socialize naturally) or to go to their enemy’s side . . . giving them a handicap (literally!). Forty years later and I still cringe.
Choosing sides can be difficult, especially when it affects not just us but our friends. It’s tough to know where to stand! But when it comes to our salvation, and where we are going to spend eternity, we need to choose wisely.
Is Jesus real? Do you believe He died for you? You may think that you can remain neutral and politically correct, but the truth is, everybody has to choose a side. Jesus himself said:
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. (Luke 11:23 ESV)
Whose side are you on? Have you chosen to stand with Christ and make Him your Lord? Or do you stand with his enemy?
Father, I know that I’m a sinner in need of a Savior. Thank You for sending Your only Son to die on the cross for me. Thank You for loving me so! How I’ve longed to be loved and to know the truth! Please forgive me of my sins, wash me in the blood of Jesus and send Your Holy Spirit to fill and walk with me. Today I make You the Lord of my life. Amen!
