The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace. (PSALM 29:11)
A friend of mine tells the story of her son’s emergency appendectomy. He’d gone skiing with friends when he was rushed to the hospital with severe pain. He had the surgery miles away from his parents. As she was telling this to her friends, they were sympathetic to how dreadful the emotional turmoil must have been for her. You can imagine how surprised they were when she said, “There wasn’t any turmoil. I’d prayed, and I knew God would take care of my son. And He did!”
That’s what Scripture means by peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Just before Jesus concluded His prayer time in the garden of Gethsemane, “Jesus looked toward heaven and prayed” (John 17:1). Through eyes of faith, He could see His beloved Father — with an expression of loving trust.
Trust Him. Look into His face. He will give you peace!
