Participating in Great Events
Would you not have loved to be an observer at Gettysburg for the battle, and then be there to hear Lincoln’s speech? We were not there, but we participated in greater events than that!
The great events of Christ's life are counted to be ours. The central events of his life are given to us as the central events of our life before God. We have suffered with him, died with him, been buried with him, and had been raised with him.
For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin (Rom 6:3-6).
From God’s perspective, we were there for the greatest events in human history: the death and resurrection of the God-Man. Many of us are preoccupied with our sins and our failures. A far better starting point is with our history before God, and use that as the basis of our living relationship with God! You were there when the central event of all time occurred! Nothing ever occurred that was more important than that—you were there!
