The Bible is full of promises, and we believe many of them. But we don’t believe all of them, at least not practically as they apply in real life. One of those promises is in Peter’s second letter:
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life . . . He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature. (2 Peter 1:3-4 niv)
It’s a beautiful word, but many of us are deeply suspicious of it. We wonder . . . can we really participate in the divine nature? If so, why do so many believers seem not to have it? If that’s available, why isn’t it more evident?
Perhaps this promise has to be thoroughly believed before being thoroughly experienced. Maybe it’s only for those bold enough to embrace it fully. Maybe it just takes time. Whatever the reason, we don’t want to lower the promise down to our level of experience. We want to raise our experience to the level of the promise. We want to step into it completely.
Ask for that. God is fine with questions—and especially requests for help. Ask him to lead you into that experience of the divine nature, and then listen to every instruction he gives. When you surrender your journey to him, it becomes his responsibility to get you there. And he will—if you follow.
Embrace every aspect of the divine nature he offers. Refuse to water the promise down. Accept it, pursue it, and live as you’ve never lived before—filled with divine power for divine purposes daily.
