Pancakes or Cinnamon Rolls?

Description

Have you been making pancakes when you should have been baking cinnamon rolls?

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

In our kitchen we have an island which holds our built-in stove. Recently we had our counter tops replaced. The new top for the island was damaged during installation and had to be replaced. For two days we went without a counter top for the island. I knew they were coming to install it on Friday, but I didn’t know at what time. One of our boys had a friend spend the night (it was Spring Break) and my wife suggested I make pancakes for them. I pulled out the stuff to do so, but something told me we should just have cinnamon rolls. Shortly after that decision, the men came to install the counter top. If I had been cooking pancakes, someone would have had to change plans.

Big deal! Is that what you are thinking? There was a day when that would have been my thought, but I have to tell you, I believe God was directing my paths. Now, I recognize that God isn’t always going to keep me from making bad decisions. In fact, I know that very well. But, as I live my life trusting in Him, and leaning upon His will and wisdom, He will ultimately direct my paths in the ways I should go. I know that very well too!

Perhaps you’ve been making pancakes when you should have had cinnamon rolls. Please don’t misunderstand, in the scheme of life I don’t think God is too concerned about your choice of breakfast foods (as long as you honor your body as a whole). I think God is concerned about the decisions you make in life. My decision not to make pancakes was not a choice of what type of breakfast to have. I simply see it as God blessing me with the right direction to take, which made life easier for me.

As we line our life up with God’s will for it, He will direct our paths in ways we should go. Then, as always, we will discover that His ways really are best.
