Because of the influence of our culture of rugged individualism, it is difficult for us to deal with the issue of personal ownership. We want to project the thought that we are self-made people. In reality, as believers, we are not self made and do not own ourselves. Our beloved Savior paid a price He did not owe. We owed the sin debt, but He who did not owe the debt paid it for us with His life. Because of this we owe Him our lives and we are His eternal servants. Some may feel giving up complete control of their life to Christ is a sign of weakness, as if there is something wrong with becoming weak so we can be strong. When we overlook this fact we tend to edge God out of our lives. When Christ has total control of our lives we have the eternal resources of Heaven at our disposal. We have God in us giving us the power to be His children. I believe control is worth giving up so we can have all that God has for us.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your body (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20 NIV).
