Our Everything
Description
Pray:
Lord, You are Lord of the journey, Lord of the valleys and Lord of the mountaintops. Thank You that You are always near.
Read:
Psalm 121:1-8
Reflect:
In what area do you need to know God's protection?
We're a small band of pilgrims, with close friends and relatives. We struggle up through a rocky, barren valley on our way to Jerusalem and the festival. The hills tower over us on both sides. The journey is dangerous.
Are there bandits in the hills? You glance up nervously, eyes flitting from boulder to crevice to cave (1a). If there were any, where would help be found in this God-forsaken valley (1b)? Of course, that's exactly it. No one in the valley is God-forsaken (2). A good friend awaits to reassure you.
The Lord guards our steps on the rough road (3a). He watches over us 24/7 (3b,4). He is close, so close. He's the shade for our heads from the unforgiving sun (5). Dangers of day and night are nothing to him (6). Not only for today and this journey and these hills is he here but for always, everywhere. Nothing about our life--our plans, our work, our home--escapes his notice and loving care (7). Not now, not ever (8). He's our everything.
Apply:
Journal about a time that God has shown himself faithful during a difficult journey. Thank him for his faithfulness.
Pray:
Lord, no journey is too long, no valley too deep, no night too dark that your love is not longer, deeper and brighter.
