Obedience is the Key

Obeying God is that simple— first you must trust Him, then you obey Him. Today, as you go about your day, who are you going to trust?

I Samuel 15: 22

To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

What brings pleasure to a mom? There is nothing better in a mom’s world than a child that is obedient. When a child obeys his mom, he is displaying a huge amount of respect for his mom and ultimately trusts her. In order to obey, a child must choose to submit their will to mom’s will. Obedience is an active action the child displays to reveal to his mom that he is in agreement that she is the boss, and he will agree to comply with her decisions. In a mom’s world, this is a win. In order for most children to obey, they have to feel safe and to know in their heart of hearts that their mom wants the best for them. Therefore, obeying is not a sacrifice, but a win/win for everyone.

Obedience is one of the major qualities God looks for in His children as well. A heart that is obedient unto the Lord, is a heart that is yielded to God. In order for any of us to yield our heart to God’s way, we must submit our will to God’s will and our way of doing things to His way of doing things. This submission takes respect for God— to believe that He is completely sovereign and trustworthy.

There is an old hymn that says, “Trust and obey for there is no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” (John H. Sammis) Obeying God is that simple— first you must trust Him, then you obey Him. Today, as you go about your day, who are you going to trust?

Father, Thank You for this day, and thank You for Your love. God, I want to trust You with all my heart and to submit my will to Yours. I know You are faithful, but sometimes I doubt because I cannot see You face to face. Give me faith that goes beyond sight. Give me a type of trust that is stronger than anything that I have ever seen.
