Not Less But More

We want to imagine that if we walk with God for a while, we’ll say, “Yes!” at any invitation. Yet, many of us struggle with that.

Job 42:2 (NIV®)

“I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.”

Job is one of the Bible’s best examples of “Things would have gone a lot better if I’d just cooperated with God.” Here, in the last chapter of his story, he finally admits that no purpose of God’s can be thwarted. I’ve been a Christ-follower for over 40 years and have been in ministry for a long time. I’ve had some incredible spiritual mentors. But my reality is there are still times when I struggle to cooperate with God. We want to imagine that if we walk with God for a while, we’ll be ready to say, “Yes! Absolutely! Let’s go!” at any invitation. But that isn’t my experience, and I don’t think I’m unique. I think all of us sometimes struggle with the invitations God puts before us because we believe that if we fully yield, if we fully cooperate with God, our lives will be less than we can do on our own. In reality, the more we cooperate with God, the more freedom and blessing we will experience.

Heavenly Father, I want to cooperate with You! I want to say yes to Your every invitation. Help me to submit my will to Yours, Lord, that Your purposes will be accomplished in my life. And I will give You all the praise and honor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
