No More Want
All man's efforts are for his mouth, yet his appetite is never satisfied. Ecclesiastes 6:7 NIV
Last night we ordered pizza. I had a late meeting and one of the boys had basketball practice, so it was convenient. The night before we had chili. My family loves my chili. I usually make one bowl with beans and one without. We have corn chips and cheddar cheese available to dip and to flavor. We went out to eat the night before last. I have a favorite hamburger place where they know our orders when we walk in the door. As I think about it, we ate something every night this week.
Why am I telling you this. Because I believe it illustrates the point of this verse. We work all day, all week, all year, for one good reason. We like to eat! We like to keep our bellies full! (Some a little fuller than others!) When my family, and probably yours, gets together for the holidays, it is most often centered around what we will eat. When my wife and I go on vacation, we spend a great deal of the time picking out the restaurants.
Life is like that. We keep on working, because we keep on needing to eat! We need a place to lay our heads at night. We need some clothes to put on our backs. Sometimes I'm hard about the “stuff” of life, but the fact is we need some of this stuff! Life requires it! Our bodies require it!
One day, perhaps very soon, we will be satisfied. We will be complete. We will have all we need. We will be with Jesus and there will be no more want in our hearts. He will be our shelter. He will be our bread. He will clothe us with His righteousness. No longer will we labor for what never really satisfies our desires. Every desire of our hearts will be satisfied! Praise God!
