No Loss of Heart
1 Samuel 17:32 (NIV®)
David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”
The story of David and Goliath is so familiar to us that we probably don’t think about how bizarre it seems for a shepherd boy to take on a trained warrior (and a giant) and kill him with a stone launched from a sling while an army was cowering in their tents. Can you imagine the shame among those men? It is safe to say the Israelite army had lost heart. Sometimes we lose the imagination that God wants to do something in and through us because there are challenges that are so intimidating, and perhaps in place for so long, that we have lost any hope they can be overcome. Sometimes God’s sense of timing and our sense of timing don’t seem to coincide, and at other times we need a season of preparation before we engage the challenge, but Almighty God can do anything. My invitation to you is to dare to say to God, “I believe you can make a difference.”
Heavenly Father, give me a fresh filling of the kind of faith that David had, faith that believes You can do anything and trusts You to make a difference in our lives. May I never lose heart, Lord, and depend on You as I face the big and small challenges before me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
