No Fear of God

Description

The Psalmist says that he has a Word from God, and the Word is this: there is no fear of God! Do you think that oracle stands true today?

An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before His eyes. Psalm 36:1 NIV

To fully understand this verse I looked up the word oracle. It means: “a word of God spoken through the prophets”. The Psalmist says that he has a Word from God, and the Word is this: THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD!

Do you think that oracle stands true today?

Our local “letters to the editors” section has recently become a forum for those for “religion” and against “religious activities”. Of course people rarely say they are opposed to religion, they just don’t think it has a place anywhere except in our pulpits on Sundays. And, with the revised, now virtually non-existent so-called “blue laws” that used to restrict activities on Sundays, we are now limited to pulpit preaching during a very short window of time on Sunday mornings alone.

Well, there are a couple of flaws in that scenario. First of all, the “religion” I write and believe in is not a “religion” at all. Religion, from the very meaning of the original words, means “to hold something by bondage”. I am in a relationship; a personal relationship with my Creator through Jesus Christ. He came not for bondage, but to set the captives free.

Second, because it is a relationship, I am not bound by a set of “religious” standards and rules, I am bound by my commitment to the relationship. And, I must tell you it is a pretty strong bond. In fact, I consider it the closest, most important relationship I have. It is my life. So, I would have a hard time containing my “relationship” to a time frame set by man.

Third, I agree with the oracle of God. There is no fear of Him today. Oh, but there should be! I can only imagine the horror cast upon man if they should have to suffer God’s wrath on this earth. One day that wrath will come, but for today, praise God, we are living in the days of grace. God’s love and offering of forgiveness is available to all “who will call upon the name of the Lord” (Jesus). My letter writer friends should be praising God to! Imagine if God decided to “get even” with the anti-Christian letter writers! Whew! Wouldn’t want to witness that!
