Children in West Pokot, Kenya, dig for water in a dry riverbed. They’ll fill jerry cans and haul the dirty water home to their families.

Dirty water that’s contaminated by human and animal feces causes diarrhea, which is the second leading cause of death globally among children younger than 5.

Nearly 1,000 children die every day from diarrhea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation and hygiene. About half of childhood malnutrition is related to water, sanitation, or hygiene issues, too.

Ask God to protect children from the dangers of unsafe water and poor sanitation and hygiene.

Great Healer, You are good and merciful. Touch these precious little ones. Give them Your strength to fight off the illnesses that wrack their bodies. Lead their communities to discover clean water sources close by so they can improve their health.

“… The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.” —Psalm 65:9 (NIV)

You can bring clean water to more children in Africa. Join World Vision’s Global 6K for Water this May 6. You can walk or run for water anywhere in the world.
