New Song

Description

Karen Stubbs encourages us to forgive others who have done harm to us. Take away their power and sing a new song in your hearts.

Psalm 33:3

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Each of us has a song that plays in our heart. There are different songs at different times in our life. Sometimes our song is joyful, while other seasons bring a bitter song, or a grieving song. Is it time to change the song that is playing in your heart? Have you left your song of bitterness on repeat and each time someone asks you to change the song you reply “no?” What is keeping you from changing your song?

At times, we hold onto hurts of the past because we believe that if we move on, if we forgive then that person will get away with the crime committed against us. But, in actuality, the only person you are hurting is yourself. The person that eats at you doesn’t know at all the damage that they have caused. The person that you hold a grudge against actually has power over you. By not forgiving and moving forward, you are allowing them to have power in your life. Take away their power and sing a new song in your heart.

Maybe you are not able to change the song playing in your heart, but God can do it. Ask Him today to change your song from bitterness, unforgiveness, hurt, anger or self-pity to a new song: a song of joy, a joy that only He can give.  God would love nothing more than to change your song to a joyful song, a song that will bring glory to Him.

Prayer

Father,

I have been bitter for so long. I am tired of it. I need a new song, a change. I have tried so many times to move past my hurt and pain and every time I end up right back in my anger. Take it away, fill me up with Your joy and give me a new song in my heart.
