New Identity

Description

When we trust in Christ as our Savior, He adopts us, indwells us with the power of the Holy Spirit, and gives us a brand new identity.

Romans 8:14-15

A great part of childhood is acquiring a new identity with amazing super powers—having the strength of Superman, and the ability to fly and defeat your enemies can make a hard day go a lot better. When life gets difficult as an adult, a new identity that sweeps us away from crises and hardship would often be most welcome.

Amazingly, God does that for us. When we trust in Christ as our Savior, he adopts us, indwells us with the power of the Holy Spirit, and gives us a brand new identity. “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father’ (Romans 8.14-15).

His adoption of us is anchored in love, bought with the blood of his Son, and given with the same privileges and benefits. Knowing we’re his and are loved matters at the end of a difficult day.

Today, read Psalm 100 and thank God for the love he has extended to you as part of his family. Feel free to call him “Daddy,” because that’s who he is to those who’ve received his Son.
