New Growth, New Fruit

Description

God is directing the steps of all believers toward maturity in Christ.

1 Peter 2:2 (NIV®)

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.

To gain access to the Kingdom of God through a profession of faith in Jesus Christ is not the end. Peter reminds us that we are expected to grow up in our salvation. When I think of maturing, the word responsibility comes to mind—first for yourself, then for others in your sphere of influence, and ultimately as a part of humanity. I don’t remember a time when I was particularly glad to get a new responsibility, but every one of those times has enabled me to grow and bring good fruit to my life. Just as we mature physically, we should grow up spiritually, focusing on spiritual things and learning to accept spiritual responsibilities.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am a valued part of Your Kingdom purposes and that You entrust me with spiritual tasks. Help me to see my spiritual responsibilities clearly. Give me a joyful heart as I serve You and others. With a grateful heart I ask these things, amen.
