Narrow Gate

Moms, do you need to take a step back and focus on your real role of being a mom?

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

What is the job of a mom? If you had to narrow it down to a simple answer, the job of a mom is to love and nurture her child. Sure, there are a lot of other definitions of mom, but in it’s simplest form, we are to love and nurture our child. So many times however, this simple part of being a mom is missed out in our lives because the “world” crowds the simple out. Instead it makes room for complex, crazy schedules, giving our child everything their heart desires, protecting them from all harm, and providing them with every possible material item we can buy.

Moms, do you need to take a step back and focus on your real role in being a mom? Once again, the world will throw a lot of things your way to get your attention and take it off of the ONE thing God has called you to do- to be the mom of your children, to love and nurture them. Narrowing your focus takes effort and discipline, but it is worth it in the end. Think back to your childhood...what sticks out as the better memory...endless driving to ball practice or dinner around the table at night as a family? The challenge for today is to narrow your focus.

Father, I feel like I have a million things pulling me in a million directions. I admit I do this to myself, convincing myself I “must” put my child in this lesson or the school across town. But, in actuality, those things are not a must. God, give me strength to focus and push against culture and to get back to the simple way of life.
