The next time you find yourself doubting your ability as a mom and you are asking God to give you something you don’t have, stop and thank God for what you do have.
Luke 9: 16-17
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He gave thanks and broke them. Then He gave them to the disciples to set before the people. They all ate and were satisfied….
Jesus needed a miracle to feed the 5,000. All He had was five loaves of bread and two fish. Isn’t it interesting what Jesus did? He took what He had and gave thanks. Jesus did not ask for more but He humbly thanked God for what had been provided for Him and had faith that God would perform the miracle. Many times we need a miracle in our lives and we focus so hard on that miracle, that we forget to thank God for what we already have. We pray and pray and pray for God to change our circumstances, to get us out of the mess that we are in and we never stop to thank God for the mess and how God might show up to perform a miracle.
The next time you find yourself doubting your ability as a mom and you are asking God to give you something you don’t have, stop and thank God for what you do have. For instance, if your child is not obeying you and pushing all your buttons, and your husband will not be home for three more hours, stop and thank God that He is the source of your love and grace. Tell God that you know He will provide for you what you need to get through the next three hours and you will endure and survive. Ask God to either give you the discipline to handle your child or to calm your child’s spirit. Either way, God will be performing a miracle.
Getting through each and every day can be a miracle, in and of itself. I need to remember to give thanks even when it looks like an impossible task. Nothing is impossible with You, God.
