Mercy and Grace

Description

Are you thankful for the mercy found in God and the grace found in Jesus Christ?

But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV

Yes, you were born in sin. Yes, you have broken God’s laws. Yes, you deserve death, because of God’s righteousness. But, yes, God loves you enough to make a way!

When I was younger, before I grew in compassion, I would share the gospel by telling people about their sins. I would tell them that the penalty for sin is death and eternal separation from God. I would tell them how holy God is, and how He can allow no sin into His presence. I would then make a horrible statement (but completely true): “There is no way a sinful man or woman can get to a holy God.” Wow! What a sad story!

With dramatic pause, I would add: “…on his or her own!” There is no way a sinful man can get to a holy God, without the intervention of a Mediator. That Mediator between God and man is Jesus. Because of God’s great mercy, which is God not giving us what we do deserve, God allowed His only Son to die on a cross, accepting that sacrifice as payment in full for our sin debt. Through Jesus, God gave us His grace, which is God giving us something we don’t deserve.

Are you thankful for the mercy found in God and the grace found in Jesus Christ? Why not express that to them both today?
