As a child, my mom and dad would almost force me to go to Church every Sunday morning. Though it was good for me to go, I saw it as more of a form of punishment. I didn't like being pulled away from watching the San Francisco 49ers play on TV. After fighting with me about this every fall from the ages of seven to probably 10 my parents decided to stop taking me to church all together. It wasn't until my freshman year in high school that I was invited by one of my closest friends to attend a youth night at the church he attended. Under the hope and anticipation that I might meet a really cute girl, I went. After hearing a testimony someone shared that night I met Jesus and asked Him to come into my heart and be Lord of my life. Emotions flowed in me, a weight from my shoulders was removed and a sense of freedom came over me.
Looking back at that moment I feel it was one of many stepping stones that God has placed in my life. Ever since then God is continuing to form and shape my life into what He wants it to be. However, I still run into struggles and trials, but am comforted to know that God is in control. He has blessed me with an awesome family, a wonderful wife, and, of course, a great job. I feel that the Lord is using the opportunity to play football not for my glory, but for His. He has given me this platform to encourage every young man who is watching the game on TV to know and follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
