Matthew 26

A tour of Matthew 26 with Ken Boa.

Matthew 26-27 portrays the betrayal, arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Israel’s rejected King. Once again Jesus predicts His crucifixion, and the chief priests and elders plot together to kill Him. The anointing of His head by Mary of Bethany and His betrayal by Judas anticipate His impending death which takes place at the time of the Jewish Passover, thus linking the Messianic Son of Man with the Paschal lamb. At the Lord’s supper, Jesus connects His death to the new covenant and predicts that His disciples will leave Him. After the agony of Gethsemane, the Lord is betrayed by Judas, abandoned by His disciples, denied by Peter, and brought before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin where He is accused of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God.

Lord, I am amazed at the vastness of Your love that endured rejection by Your people, betrayal and abandonment by Your disciples, and the agony of anticipating the awful burden of taking the cumulative sins of the world upon Yourself.
