Have you ever had a hard time doing math? All those fractions and division problems and equations and graphs can be pretty confusing. Sometimes you need a tutor to figure it all out. With Jesus, there’s one math problem that doesn’t make sense to our minds, but the Holy Spirit tutors us so we can understand it. It looks like this:
Jesus’ perfect life + Jesus’ innocent death + faith = eternal life in heaven.
It doesn’t make sense to us because we know we don’t deserve it. We sin all the time and are not perfect in any way. We don’t deserve God’s love either, but he still chose to love us enough to send his only Son to be mocked, ridiculed, and put to death in a horrible fashion. Because of that love we get to live forever. “You were once dead because of your failures. . . . But God made you alive with Christ when he forgave all our failures” (Colossians 2:13).
This passage explains God’s math problem perfectly. God made us alive because of Jesus and forgave all our sins. Faith in Jesus Christ is your only way to eternal life.
In God’s math, Jesus is always the right answer.
Dear God, we all have trouble with math sometimes, but help us see that one math problem will save us. The math problem that is Jesus Christ. Help us look to you in times of trouble. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
