Making an Entrance
Read: Luke 19:28-44
All of us are waiting for God to move in our lives. The children of Israel waited, too. Everyone was waiting and watching, hoping for a Messiah who would relieve them of their worries, redeem them of their sins and rebuild their nation that had been ravaged by the Romans.
The crowd welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem probably had the same hopes for Him that we do. They wanted Him to conquer, overcome and wreak havoc on their enemies then elevate them to power by His side. They wanted Him to gallop in on a magnificent steed in all His splendor, but instead Jesus came on a borrowed donkey, wearing yesterday’s garments that would be blood-stained in less than a week.
We may be tempted to give Jesus a makeover in our own image. But it would better to let His humility change us and to pray that He turns our desire to overcome into a desire to be more like Him.
