As the Lord enters Jericho on His way to Jerusalem, He transforms the life of a wealthy tax collector by giving Zaccheus the gift of salvation. Jesus encapsulates His ministry purpose in His declaration that “the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” The parable of the minas illustrates the truth that reward in the kingdom of God is not determined by what we have been given, but by faithfulness in how we use what God has entrusted to us.
In His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Jesus presented Himself as Israel’s promised Messiah. Seeing the city, He wept over it, knowing that it would be destroyed because of Israel’s rejection of her King who had come in the name of the Lord.
