Loved to Death

Description

For those of us who are in healthy, happy relationships, we need to be mindful that there are many who are hurting and feel alone or are perhaps victims of abuse, wishing they were alone.

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 ESV)

Ahhh, February .  .  . the month of flowers, chocolates and love! So many women swoon over Valentine’s Day but I must say – I am not one of them. My husband is attentive, caring and loving 365 days a year and so I have communicated and encouraged him not to get caught up in guilt-filled traditions.

Not just because flowers are marked up 200 percent during the second week of February, but also because I’ve seen the pain on women’s faces when flamboyant displays of affection are delivered to my office. Yes, declarations of love can bring hope and inspiration to a few, but more often than not I see disappointment or resentment behind plastered smiles on a few coworkers.

So, for those of us who are in healthy, happy relationships, we need to be mindful that there are many who are hurting and feel alone or are perhaps as victims of abuse, wishing they were alone.

If you’re reading this and you are hurting and feeling unloved, please know that there is only one perfect love and He is with you. Even now. He didn’t declare His love with caloric chocolates, wilted roses or a sentimental card but with His own life. He died for you and wrote the most amazing love letters to remind you daily that you are not alone, but that He wants to walk beside you.

Here is a precious promise from the Lord:

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. (Zephanhiah 3:17 ESV)

When we come into relationship with Christ, He is with us, rejoices with us, quiets us with his love and delights over us with loud singing! Now THAT is what I would call a public display of affection that I can get excited about!

Father, we thank You that You love us with an everlasting, true and perfect love. Thank You for the gift of Your Son and for the invitation to come into a loving relationship with You through His blood. Help us to not let society make us feel unlovely, unworthy or anything less than what You have created us to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
