Love Trumps Everything

Description

Love is more important than speaking in tongues, giving all you have to the poor, or even having faith to move mountains. As impressive as these might be, without love, they are just noisemakers.

Hear

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13).

Believe

The greatest of these is love.

This is how Paul concluded the great love chapter.

He is saying that love trumps everything. That it sits alone in the top spot.

It is more important than speaking in tongues, giving all you have to the poor, or even having the faith to move mountains.

As impressive as these might be, without love, they are just a bunch of noise makers.

Even compared to faith and hope, love is the greatest. John tells us why in his first letter: “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them” (1 John 4:16).

God is love. Love is his nature, the essence of who he is.

We see this truth vividly in the Gospel. As John wrote, “he loved us and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10). God manifested his essence through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Now, the world does not know this about God. Neither did you until you came to know God through Christ. But through Jesus, you learned the truth…that God is love…that he forgave your sins and gave you His life…that he loved you so much he calls you a child of God.

You learned that the greatest of these is love.

Live

Jesus made his Father known to you. He revealed to you the love of God. And it changed your life. Now, you live in his love every day. And, as you abide in him you can count on Jesus to reveal to others the love of his Father through you.
