Love Never Fails
"Love never fails…." 1 Corinthians 13:8, AMP
Haven't been stretched lately? Need a challenge? Tired of the easy, cake-walk Christian life? Thought "love" was for wimps? So, in case your Christian life has been a bed of roses lately and you're looking for the ultimate challenge, here's your reminder that Jesus has called us to live the love life. If you haven't taken the "Love Test" lately, say First Corinthians 13 out loud by putting your name into each of the places where you see the word "love" and see how many times you cringe.
For example, the "Love Test" would sound like this, "Alice endures long. Alice is patient and kind. Alice is never envious…." Get the idea? Go ahead…take the test and put your name in every place you see the bold word "love."
Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. (AMP)
If you had to cringe more than once when you confessed First Corinthians 13…pray it this time!
Say It: “Father, I need Your help! I ask You to forgive me for my failure to walk in the God-kind of love and I ask for Your continued grace so that I can love according to First Corinthians 13. I pray I may endure long and be patient and kind; I pray that I am never envious nor boiling over with jealousy, am not boastful or vainglorious, do not display myself haughtily. I pray that I am not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); am not rude (unmannerly) and do not act unbecomingly. I pray that Your love in me will flow so that I do not insist on my own rights or my own way, that I am not self-seeking, not touchy or fretful or resentful, that I take no account of the evil done to me and that I pay no attention to a suffered wrong. I pray for Your help, so that I do not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but I rejoice when right and truth prevail. I pray that Your love in me is strong so that I can bear up under anything and everything that comes, and that I am ever ready to believe the best of every person. I pray Your love in me causes my hopes to be fadeless under all circumstances, so that I endure everything [without weakening]. I know that Your love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. In Jesus' Name. Amen.”
