We don't choose to love; love chooses us. God's love for us led Him to choose us. Because we are beloved by the Lord, God has done a number of things for us. From the very beginning God has chosen us to salvation.
But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. And it was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2Th 2:13-14)
The means he used to bring us to salvation is the Holy Spirit coming into our lives and giving us the ability to believe the truth. The goal in mind is a wonderful one which is to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are in the middle of something wonderful. At the beginning we were chosen to salvation and at the end we will obtain the glory of Jesus Christ. All of this is driven by God's love for us. God's love appears to be something that encompasses time and eternity, and in very real terms from beginning to end. We are loved as only God can love from everlasting to everlasting.
