Living Under God’s Constant Protection

The way to enter into His eternal protection is to place your faith in Jesus alone.

My brother, five years older than me, often had a knack for helping me find courage as a kid. His mere presence in times when I felt threatened often gave me that “my big brother will beat you up” feeling. As a believer, God fills this role for me spiritually. I know that I live under His constant protection in at least two senses.

First, I enjoy His eternal protection that results from His marking me with the seal of the Holy Spirit, who is like a present guarantee of my future inheritance.

Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. - Ephesians 1:13 (NIV)

And once the Father, Creator, and King has set His seal upon me, who can possibly break it? He has established ownership of me. I am His and He protects His children ferociously.

And second, I live under His moment-by-moment, issue-by-issue protection as well. Peter writes to you…

who are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. - 1 Peter 1:5 (NIV)

The word “shielded” in this verse draws from the ancient picture of a city with great walls that would have had an inner garrison of soldiers surrounding the city on its inside. If at any point, the enemy broke through the wall, that garrison would rush to the breach to put a stop to the enemy’s invasion. God is willing to defend us from the enemy, the evil one, who always seeks entry into the inner sanctum of our hearts to spoil and corrupt us.

Are you living under God’s protection today? The way to enter into His eternal protection is to place your faith squarely in Jesus alone as the Leader and Forgiver of your life, turning from your sin and trusting in Him. To this surrender, He promises to keep you forever! And to enjoy His moment-by-moment protection from the evil one, listen to His instruction for avoiding the attacks of the enemy, and trust Him to defend you in your weakest moments.
