A cross erected on a steep hillside overlooks Zahlé city, Lebanon, in the Bekaa Valley.

The sun is rising over the Syrian hills to the east.

Zahlé is the capital and largest city of the Bekaa Governorate. The Lebanese population of the city is predominantly Christian.

Many Syrian refugees live in Informal Tented Settlements that dot the valley below. While the photographer was making photos of the cross, there was a constant rumble of bombs beyond the mountains in nearby Syria.
