Lift Them Up

Our world is a stressed place; the best thing for us to do is pray for people who are living through troubling times.

1 Timothy 2:1 (NIV®)

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone.

Our world has shrunk, and the 24-hour news cycle brings it into our homes. We can have morning coffee and watch in real time the devastation of a weather event in Asia. We can pause at lunchtime and hear about conflict in the Middle East. The evening news will report on parents somewhere in the US who lost a child to gang violence. Our world is a stressed place; the best thing for us to do is pray for those people who are living through such troubling times. They began their day thinking they were relatively secure, but circumstances have turned their lives inside out. I believe prayer makes a difference, so let’s pray for them right now.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege we have of lifting our hearts and voices in praise and petition to You.  Lord, we pray today for people who are enduring hardship. We pray for Your intervention in their lives and circumstances. Be merciful to those people in Jesus’ name. We pray for the Church in struggling places, that Your people will be faithful witnesses in times of trouble. May the Prince of Peace be revealed in all the earth. In the powerful name of Jesus we pray, amen.
