“I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army” Ezekiel 37:8-10.
As Ezekiel preached to the dead, dry bones in the valley, they came together. Yet, as we read today, there was no life in them. They had gathered. They had collected. But there was still “no breath in them.” For them to come alive, God needed to breathe His breath into them. The same is true for each of us.
The only way we truly experience true life is when we experience the breath, or Spirit, of God in our lives. The Holy Spirit has power to bring anything to life. No matter what situation we may find ourselves in, there is only so much we can do on our own to collect the remnants, to gather the bones. We must rely on God’s Spirit, His breath, to bring us back to life.
Have you experienced the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit in your situation?
Thank God for His life-giving breath. Ask Him to breathe His Spirit into your situation. And thank Him for His ability to bring any collection of dead, dry bones back to life.
Think of someone you know who needs to life-giving power of God’s Spirit. Look for ways to encourage that person and to help them understand that, no matter what they are facing, there is life in a relationship with Christ.
