Life Fully Lived
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NASB®)
I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him.
The children of Israel have been out of Egypt for a long time. They remember the plagues visited on the Egyptians and walking through the Red Sea on dry ground. They’ve eaten manna God has provided and followed His pillar of cloud and pillar of fire. God has sustained them in the desert for many years, and they know they are His people. Moses, in one of his last addresses to the Israelites, says, “You’ve got to choose: life or death, blessing or curse. And oh, by the way, choose life.” And then he tells them how to do that. We also need to be reminded that a healthy spiritual life does not consist of a single decision in the past. We say a prayer somewhere along the way and think, “Well, I made my God-choice. Now I can go live my life.” That’s not the message of Scripture. It invites us to lead a life of choosing Him, day by day and moment by moment. Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, there’s an opportunity to choose God more fully than you’ve known Him before.
Heavenly Father, today I choose life and blessing. Thank You for all the ways You provide for me and lead me. I commit today to love You more deeply, obey You more fully, and hold fast to You when my strength fails. Thank You for Your promise of life. Thank You for the invitations You place before me and the opportunities You give me to cooperate with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
