Life and Laundry

Description

Taking advantage of a dry day, a Syrian refugee woman in Lebanon washes and hangs out clothes.

When there’s sun, it’s a good day to do laundry; it dries quicker. Still it takes a long time to heat the water, wash, rinse and hang each piece of clothing on the line.

Though there’s a lot of dust and wood smoke, it’s still better to hang them out. When it’s cold and rainy there’s nothing to do but hang laundry inside. There it’s in the way and it’s very hard for things to dry.

Syrian refugees fled their homes seeking safety, but many who live on rented land in tent settlements in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley find that their new lives are precarious and hard.
