Read: Ephesians 1:1-10
Every July 4th, I invite my entire family over for a celebration. Even in the midst of summer and among the hotdogs, watermelon and iced tea, conversation never fails to turn to the plans for the Thanksgiving feast. My mother-in-law and I debate the best way to cook turkey, and I happily invite everyone back for more family festivities and another delicious meal together.
Paul writes in Ephesians 1:3-5, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ... For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ in accordance with his pleasure and will.” Like my family for Independence Day and Thanksgiving family gatherings, we have been invited to God's feast! Before the world was even created, our Lord chose us to be part of His family, extending an invitation to participate fully in the joy that His will brings.
What's more is that Luke 14:13-14 explains exactly who Jesus wants us to invite to join the family with us. It says to extend invitations to “the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind, and you will be blessed, for although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Like a holiday gathering where all members of the family are invited, we are called to bring everyone we know to enjoy Jesus’ feast.
Who are you inviting to enjoy Jesus’ feast?
Do you believe that the invitation to join God's family is truly for everyone?
