Let’s Be Safe

Students from a public elementary school in rural Philippines practice an earthquake drill. They’ve learned what to do when an earthquake strikes.

World Vision holds Disaster Management and Preparedness workshops for teachers, students, and community members in the Philippines. Participants learn how to assess their dangers and how to prepare against natural disasters. Students learned to Duck, Cover and Hold, and how to evacuate safely.

“We used to think that the safest place to evacuate during flood is the barangay (community) hall. During the World Vision training, we mapped hazardous areas in our community and discovered that our proposed evacuation center is one of the hazardous places during flood,” says teacher Roland Espartero.

World Vision complements Rolando’s efforts by providing emergency kits to the students. Each kit consists of a whistle, flashlight and other emergency essentials.
