Lessons From the Shelf

God may want us on the shelf of life to learn from Him only that which can be learned from the shelf.

There are times as leaders that out of our own choosing or disobedience or circumstance beyond our control, we find ourselves on the shelf of life and not leading in ministry as we once did. God’s desire may be to allow the shelf experience to teach something great about who He is. God may want us on the shelf of life to learn from Him only that which can be learned from the shelf. Many leaders view being on the shelf as being punished or abandoned by God. As a ministry leader there will come a time in your life and ministry, you find yourself on a shelf or on the side of the road of ministry. It may be for a few months or, in my case, for the past two and half years, and is still my journey.

God is using my shelf life to teach me several things.

God knows where are.

You may and will feel abounded by friends and family and at times, God, but be assured you are not alone. God is there with you. There may be days and will be days that you hear from no one, no phone calls, no emails, and no text messages. The lesson I am learning has been to truly understand and experience the presence of God when no one else is around. To experience the presence of Christ when you hurt so bad and are so alone that we do not and cannot voice that hurt to anyone but God. But, then to experience and know the presence of Christ as He intercedes for us. Christ understands in a way that even we cannot comprehend.

Psalms 25; 5-6 “Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; I wait for You all day long. 6 Remember, Lord, Your compassion and your faithful love, for they have existed from antiquity.”

Psalms 37:25 I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread.

Romans 8:26 In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. 27 And He who searches the hearts knows the Spirit’s mind-set, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Be encouraged, God is sitting on the shelf with you.
