Learning to Trust God with Your Needs

When you trust God to meet your needs and He provides, you deepen your faith and develop an even greater trust in Him.

Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air!  They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?  Matthew 6:25-26

I used to worry about money.  Back when I first moved to Uganda, all around me were sick people in desperate need, some literally starving before my tear-filled eyes.  They were coming to me for help, begging for me to do something, anything.  I was only 19 then, with hardly any money saved.  I did what I could, but there were times when I used up every penny I had to help whomever God put in my path, which meant sometimes I had no food to serve for dinner that day.

But I learned to trust God with my needs.  It was not something I naturally understood because growing up in Brentwood; I had all my needs met and more.  I was never hungry.  I was never without clothes or water.  I had a warm bed to sleep in and two parents who loved me immensely.  He had to cultivate this in my heart.  As He showed up in everyday miracles, I began to trust Him in the everyday things.  But it took time. You put your trust in God to meet your needs, and because you trust in God and He meets your needs, you see Him provide.  This deepens your faith and helps you trust Him even more.
