It's very possible for those of us in Western culture to live as if God our Heavenly Father IS NOT the only god! Don’t let this be you!
Maker, there is none like you
Savior, no one else will do
Lord, there is no other God
READ PSALM 86:1-10
You may or may not know that THIRD DAY’s Come Together Fund has been supporting a school and a children’s home on the Come Together Compound in a remote village in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It’s a Christian ethos school but children come to the school from both Christian and Hindu families. In partnership with a local network of churches, we have seen much fruitfulness in our educational, practical and spiritual ministry in India. The Hindu faith has such a multiplicity of gods and idols that it is easy for Hindus to simply add Jesus to a large list of gods they worship, yet that’s not honoring to the three-in-one God we discover in the Bible.
Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord:
No deeds can compare with yours…
For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
You alone are God. - Psalm 86:8,10
Throughout the Old Testament, God declares His uniqueness and His worshiper’s pledge to worship Him and Him alone. In John’s gospel, Jesus himself reminds us that He is the only way to the Father, the only Gate to eternal salvation, the only path to righteousness.
In case we become too judgmental of those who don’t accept the uniqueness of the deity of Jesus, let’s remind ourselves of yesterday’s valuable lesson - it’s very possible for those of us in Western culture to live as if God our Heavenly Father IS NOT the only god! Don’t let that be you!
Help me to discover what it means to be consumed by you, to trust you and you alone. There is none like you God, and your deeds are great and marvelous. You are my God, and I will worship you! You are my Lord, and I will obey you! You are my Savior, and I will rejoice in my salvation!
