Laying the Foundation for Your Faith

Description

In this world, you will have trouble. How will you respond in the midst of a crisis? What's the foundation for your faith?

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. - James 1:2-3

This verse continues to say, “perseverance produces hope and hope does not disappoint.”  Many years ago - I had my heart crushed with the loss of my first love. I was in serious need of encouragement… and, decided a word study on the word hope might cheer me up.

I know, I know - let’s just say I’ve always been a NERD. However - it revealed to me that hope is not something we do in vain.  Hope is actually a confident expectation of God showing up and taking care of business.

In this world, we will have trouble - we are promised that. Question is - how will we respond in the midst of a crisis?  How will we respond when we are wronged? How will we respond when the storm has lasted years - wave after wave crashing over us? Will our faith be refined as the dross is removed from silver, or will we buckle under the pressure? These are the kinds of answers that shape the very fabric of who we are. They create a grid through which we make our decisions, they are the foundation of our faith.

Prayer: LORD, though the trials are many and the pain is REAL, we trust you.  May we find joy amidst the mess of our lives; the kind of joy that can only be found in YOU.  May we put our HOPE in you and what you did for us on the cross; certain that you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  Amen
