Knowing Scripture

Description

You need to be prepared to share your faith. Learn as much of God’s Word as you can and carry verses in your memories!

“Quietly trust yourself to Christ your Lord and if anybody asks why you believe as you do, be ready to tell him and do it in a gentle and respectful way.”  (1 Peter 3:15 (TLB)

If we are going to share Christ with others, and that is a requirement for all Christians, we need to know what to say to them and what Bible verses will confirm what we say. Since most of us don’t usually carry a list of verses or a Bible with us, we must carry those verses in our memories.

In teaching, I often quote Scriptures dealing with finances. Friends ask me how I am able to remember so many verses. Through no credit of mine, I was given the ability to recall Scripture verses that deal with whatever question I am asked. This has to be a God-given ability, because I don’t have to work at it. But, I have to stay in the Word and read the verses I need to recall. You can’t remember what you have never read.

Often, when I go to bed, I spend the time until I fall asleep going back over Scripture verses so I’ll remember them.

I encourage you to learn as much of God’s Word as you can so you can keep it with you. Then, when given the opportunity, you will be able to share it with others. God’s Word says that whatever is in your heart is going to come out of your mouth. And John 7:38 says, “From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water” (NASB).

Get a piece of paper and list all of the verses you can quote from memory. Which is your favorite? Now list the ones you want to learn and spend time each day working on that list.
