Knock, Knock!

Have you considered that the very things burdening your heart in prayer are the very things you may need to be acting upon?

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7

We can use this scripture to further organize our prayer closets. In review of our prayer requests, we can categorize them into three categories. There are those petitions that we can only ask God to intervene, in some prayer needs we need to seek God’s wisdom and direction for the answer, and then there are those that require a knock, as we will discuss today.

I like to refer to “knock” as our way of taking action.

FOR INSTANCE, I know some of you are praying that those “heathen” neighbors of yours will “get saved”, but what if your part in that prayer answer is YOU building a relationship with them or inviting them to church?

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

Perhaps you are praying for two friends of yours whom are at odds with one another and need to be reconciled. What if you need to be the one to help them come to a point of forgiveness and restoration?

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9

Maybe you are praying over a need in your community. Maybe your small group could be the answer?

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10:24

Are you praying over someone who is deceived (of the same gender)? Maybe you are just the person to address that person’s issue before it affects others.

See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Hebrews 12:15

When praying over dealings with unbelievers, take note to be wise – do your research, be aware and be a good witness.

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Colossians 4:5

When praying over the abused and neglected children, consider if God is calling you to be an advocate in some way.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27

Do you have some prayer requests that could use a little God-led action by YOU?

Prayer is not about requesting, requesting and requesting stuff from God. It is about our relationship with Him. It is about our partnering with Him in kingdom work.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

  • Do you ever think about this when you pray?
  • Do you wonder what God has in store for you to do?
  • Have you considered that the very things burdening your heart in prayer are the very things that you may need to be acting upon?
